Amsterdam to restrict the duration of street parking

In the future, bicycles will only be allowed to remain unused on the streets of central Amsterdam for a limited period. As a result of high bicycle ownership among inhabitants of Amsterdam, increasing numbers of broken bicycles are left unattended in public spaces.

  • This is the reason why the municipality wants to severely reduce the number of unattended bicycles (wrecks and abandoned bicycles) left in open spaces within public and residential areas. A proposal has been submitted to limit the time during which unattended bicycles can remain on the street. A period of 6 weeks is being considered for residential areas. Such a parking limitation is nothing new; a limit of two weeks already applies in a number of places the capital, and at the Leidseplein this limit is one week.
