The Haarlem municipality is conducting a trial with the LED parking system in a bike parking garage under the station square. The system helps cyclists find free spaces in the parking area.

Dynamic message signs at the start of the gangway and LEDs at each parking space indicate where free spaces are located. Orange LED illumination indicates available spaces in the upper level and green LED illumination indicates free spaces on the lower level. The aim of the trial, in which 370 out of 5000 parking spaces are integrated into the system, is to promote the user-friendliness and efficiency of the garage. Statistical information such as average occupancy, time of the rush hour, peak occupancy, average duration of parking, etc. can be obtained from any location. Bikes parked for long periods or orphaned bikes can be quickly identified and removed. Similar trials are being conducted in Utrecht and Groningen.
