Direct cycling routes through residential areas require a meticulous approach (even though the priority issue has been taken care of).

  • The implications of ‘Duurzaam Veilig’ (Sustainably Safe) on the opportunities of guiding cyclists through residential areas have been investigated. The BABW regulations should enable authorities to regulate priorities on bicycle routes in 30 km/h areas, is the conclusion of the authors. In addition, the classification inherent to Duurzaam Veilig should do more to allow for bicycle connections, in particular when the roadway is used to this purpose.
