Car use will fall by 15% and public transport use will increase by 6%. These are some of the expected results of the mileage tax. No data have been published on effects on bicycle use, but previous studies indicate an approximately 10% increase.

The mileage charge will affect, among others, travel times and choice of transport mode. This might lead to a 58% reduction in congestion delays, according to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works. The number of traffic fatalities will fall by 7%. The number of public transport kilometres will increase by approximately 6%. People will also tend to cycle or walk more often, the Ministry states in an explanation. Previous studies indicate that slow traffic is to increase by 9,9%.
