In the nineteen seventies there was a bicycle renaissance in Zürich. In 1973 this resulted in a proposal for a bicycle network. Encompassing only a few bicycle routes at first, but around 1980 29 streets have received bicycle markings, with 77 in 1982. At the same time the 'Veloinitiative' is born and the bicycle earns a permanent place within the town’s mobility policy.
