Cycling from home to the train station is a normal part of life in the Netherlands. Around 33% of train passengers do it. The bicycle brings the train within reach, particularly for travellers who live between one and three kilometres from a station: 32% of the whole population. However, the bicycle plays a much more modest role in the onward journey from the station to the destination (work, school, etc). This article also discusses the Public Transport bicycle.
