Do traffic engineers and urban planners take children into consideration as users of public space? Independent play outside is of major importance for children, both for their quality of life as a child and for their growth into independent individuals. In planning streets and neighbourhoods the interests, limitations and wishes of children should therefore be taken into account. Creating more ‘transparent space’ and decreasing speed limits are major action items.
