Test for new blind-corner solution

In the German town of Flensburg a new warning system for blind-corner accidents is being tested. A flashing light warns car drivers making a right turn when cyclists are approaching from behind.

The light starts to flash as soon as a cyclist enters a 60-metre zone in front of the traffic light. High-speed cyclists are detected as well.
The flashing light is managed by a radar detector, making the system vehicle-independent. Both lorries and private cars may profit. At the same time, this is the drawback. An in-vehicle system as currently on the market from various manufacturers works at every traffic light. The picture shows the detector to the right of the traffic light and the extra warning light below the regular lights. Limited information is to be found at www.fahrrad-ampel.de
